Artist Bio
Makenna is a lifelong Austinite, visual artist, and full-time student currently working toward a BFA with honors from Texas State University. At present she works in 2D. She is exploring new hand techniques and mediums, and studying the work of artists such as Josef Albers, Cy Twombly, George Condo, Georgia O’Keeffe, and many, many others. The mediums she is most attracted to are oil, graphite, and lithography.
The subjects Makenna is currently focused on include animals, antique cars, and social issues. She routinely paints compositions that draw viewers in. Most of her drawings and paintings reveal her love of capturing perspective, (especially her car portraits) - she attributes this to her childhood desire to be an architect.
Makenna’s three biggest influences are Georgia O'Keeffe, for the risks she took with compositions, and the wisdom she imparted through her letters; Frida Kahlo, for her raw depictions of trauma and her personal hardship; and Emma Lea Mayton, who, as her very first art teacher, laid the foundation for Makenna to become an artist.
