Makenna Hatter (Michigan, 1986) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Austin and Houston, Texas. She began making art in 2017 after leaving a 12 year career in the legal field and began focusing on painting in 2019. Hatter earned her BFA with a concentration in painting from Texas State University in May 2022. At present she is a second year MFA candidate and teaching fellow at the University of Houston. Hatter has exhibited work in multiple group and solo exhibitions, and her work has been published in the Austin-based publication The Rio Review. Hatter has led creative workshops at Austin Community College, and in September 2022 she completed a residency at Fish Factory Creative Centre in Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland. Most recently, Hatter was a recipient of the Entrepreneurial Arts Initiative Grant awarded by the University of Houston.
